Getting started

Everything a new character needs to know, in the order it comes up: picking a class, the tutorial, how levelling actually works here (quests first), where to train at each level, what to wear, and how to get around. Every number on this page is the game’s own.

Choose a class

You start as a Wanderer with no class. A class is chosen at the Panda Hut in Anundo through a quest you can repeat, so repeating it is how you change class later; each class gives a fixed stat bonus. No weapon is restricted by class, but a weapon’s bonuses may not apply without the matching class type: fighter, ranger or caster. Most spells are restricted to the class they belong to (classes, weapon classes).

The tutorial

A new character starts on the Import Pad in Bunker 5 and works through a short chain of quests that teaches the game and hands over the first gear. In order, with what each one pays:

The first quests in Aeven

Six quests around Aeven exist for the stretch from the tutorial to level 10 (added in update 0.4.24). Between them they hand over 50 eon to start Toolshop Approved, the first buddy coin, and a Broken Bow with a quiver, so a new character can hit the chickens without buying a bow first. Two of them repeat, for something to do in town.

Levelling

The quest window (Q) has a Possible quests tab listing the quests available at your level, each showing what it pays and what it asks. When the tab has none left at your level, quests reopen as you level up. The quests above are the ones built for the first ten levels. Every quest has its walkthrough on its page, and the list sorts by level and by experience.

Under level 30 kills are boosted too: four times the experience within four levels of the monster, fading out between 25 and 30 (experience boost). Watch the gift box beside your inventory: levels and bosses deliver items into it, and they can expire.

Where to train

Under level 30 the quest tab carries you, and between quests the daily bounties and the public events pay more than any grind. When you do fight for experience, these are the grounds players use, by the level of what stands there; each monster's figure is its own experience per kill. The training guide has the repeatable quests and every ground in full.

What to wear

The equipment guide opens with the path through the first thirty levels piece by piece. After that, gear comes in named sets, one per level tier. Much of a set is jewellery crafted from that region’s drops. The equipment guide has every piece, who makes it and its materials.

Money, travel and the rest

  • Money. Eon come from quests, the daily bounties and monster drops; what a shop pays for a drop is the floor under its value, not an income. What players buy is materials: set pieces, cores, gear frames and jewelry bases, sold on the auction house. The money guide lists them with their sources.
  • Getting around. Walk onto a wayfarer point to discover it and set it as your respawn; unlocking it for travel costs waystones (one near Aeven, more further out) and each trip one more. Boats, airships and the train are on travel.
  • Respawn. You reappear at the wayfarer point you set as home (respawn points).
  • Commands. #item name, #npc name and #shop name ask the game itself; the full list.
  • Controls, chat, trading, staying safe: controls, chat, trading, account safety.
