Controls
The keys and buttons that drive the game.
Walk with the arrow keys. Ctrl swings your weapon at whatever you face. F11 sits you down to recover faster, F12 redraws the screen when the game and you disagree about where you are, and F1–F9 (with Shift for a second row) fire whatever you have put in those hotkey slots, spells, potions, items. The numbers on the numeric keypad make faces. The game’s own help on the buttons, keys and screen panels follows.
E-Config
E-Config, the settings program in the game folder, keeps what the in-game menu forgets on relog: WASD walking, click-to-walk path lines and double-click to attack, the print-screen key, idle disconnect, sound levels and NPC sounds, classic or fast frame rate, window size and scale, lighting quality, the HUD bars, the HP/MP/experience readouts, chat balloons and their colours, whether strangers may party or trade you, friends-only whispers, the language filter, chat logging, and the interface theme. Two commonly-used settings: ghostable NPCs (walk through any NPC; the in-game arrow menu’s Input entry sets it for one session, E-Config for good) and craft warnings, which stop you before a craft that would use a bound ingredient and so come out bound. Save the configuration and the game restarts.
Reading the screen
The channel button is green, yellow or red by how full the map is. On the minimap players are green, monsters orange, NPCs you can talk to purple; double-click it for coordinates. The gift box beside the inventory lights when a boss piece, a ticket, an auction purchase or a level gift arrives. The quest window has active, possible, completed, daily and weekly tabs; hover a quest for its giver, reward and maximum level. The paperdoll has two gear sets and a costume layer, and shows your guild, partner, usage, gathering score, kills, badges and completed quests to everyone.
