Chat and channels

Global chat, its disclaimer, channels, and the filter.

Global chat is opt-in: you read and agree to a disclaimer before using it, and the channel is switched off at times. Jail removes it.

The world runs on channels. The channel button is green, yellow or red by how full the map is; when a map fills, the channel locks and the next arrival opens a new one. Switching can be refused when the channel is full, already yours, closing, disabled on the map, or when you swapped too recently. The player list shows who is on each channel.

A profanity filter exists and on some servers is enforced, you cannot turn it off.

Chat Manual

There are many ways you can communicate with other online players. Here are a few examples how you can contact your fellow players:

Regular chatting

Regular chatting is just talking to the people around you. Click on the 5th panel on the left to display your chat box. Then type in the message box and press enter to send. You cannot copy when chatting, but you can paste text in, only if the line is empty, however.

Whispering

Whispering is very handy to communicate to people that are far away. To whisper someone you must type ! then their name, then the message.

Example: !Vult-r hello

When you do this a tab below your chat box appears with the name of the person you just whispered. Click on it and type ! before each message without typing their name over again when you are currently viewing their tab.

You can also right click on the person's name in your chat box and ( !name ) automatically comes up saving you some time.

Global

Global chat is where everyone can talk to everyone else no matter where they are (except in jail). To talk in global, click the "Glob." tab at the bottom of your chat panel. To talk in global type ~ before each message

Example: ~Hello everyone

This way you can communicate to anyone who currently is looking at the global chat tab. However, when you are in the global chat tab you cannot see whispers or any other messages in the main chat tab. So you may have to switch back and forth.

Guild chat

Requires you to be a member of a guild. To write in this channel start your sentence with an &

Example: &Hello fellow guild members

Making Emoticons

Make faces with your character.

How do I do emoticons?

You can make certain emoticons by pressing the numbers located on the extreme right of your keyboard. (Not the ones on top)

List of emotions

1 Happy face

2 Annoyed face

3 Sad face

4 Angry face

5 Confused face

6 Shocked face

7 In love face

8 Sleepy face

9 Depressed face

0 Playful face

I'm using a laptop how can I do the emoticons?

If you are using a laptop there should be a combination of keys you need to press in order to acess those numbers.

Example: Fn + U = 4 (HP laptop)

Since laptop keyboards aren't as wide as a regular keyboard, look for a combination of keys by color or symbol you need to press. These vary by laptop type.

There are also possibilities to buy an USB numpad to solve this problem.
